A Great Weekend

Well what a great weekend. It started out on Friday night with Lorraine and I out on the golf course, she has only been out 3 or 4 times, after her 5th lesson, but she really is doing very well; the money invested in those lessons is obviously paying off. We are playing a lot at the Countryside Golf Club which is only about 15 minutes away and very cheap, $19 for twilight, and $38 at the weekend (including cart!).

It has two courses, although Lorraine has only ever played on the Prairie course. Set in the heart of the forest preserve, it has some fantastic views over rolling fields and a particularly interesting marsh/swamp area, which I really must get a picture of one of these days.

Saturday saw us at the LaSalle Bank Open, we followed round behind Brendon De Jonge, Matthew Goggin (who has won it before), and a rather colourful American from Vegas, Charley Hoffman. Towards the end we also had the opportunity to see Chris Couch (the winner) play some holes and he was on awesome form. The whole experience made me very humble as to my little amount of golf ability, and in awe of some of the houses around the course, easily worth in excess of $1m.

On Saturday afternoon, we spent some time by the new pool, meeting some new people, lounging around and Lorraine even swam some. That evening we went to see Crash at the local multiplex. It was an excellent movie with Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser. It kinda reminded me of a Tarantino movie, where it started at the end, jumped around a lot, and by the time you had finished, you realised that every character was intertwined with every other.

On Sunday I had arranged a works golf outing and, including Lorraine and Hazel, had two foursomes to go out. We decided on the Texas Scramble format with such varying skill ranges in the group. My foursome unfortunately lost, finishing an excellent 3 over par, but the other ended up 4 shots ahead at 1 under, quite a feat, considering they had Leon (only kidding Leon!). We didn't care though, we had a great time, and hopefully will be repeating the experience very soon.

Next weekend, the Indy Grand Prix, at the world famous Indianapolis Speedway circuit. It will be my first live GP, and I personally am very excited, although I expect Lorraine is less so :-) We will make a bit of a weekend of it, staying Saturday down in West Lafayette, which I am told is only about an hour from the circuit, enjoy the race on Sunday and still be home by 8pm I reckon..more next weekend.
